If you are a vegetarian / vegan, it is never been easier to travel to Adelaide. In recent years, Adelaide has developed to be a vegetarian / vegan friendly city. We visited Adelaide and the surrounding areas, these were the vegetarian / vegan meals we tried.
Adelaide city
Zenhouse Vegetarian Yum Cha
Address: 17-19 Bent St, Adelaide SA 5000
Located on a rather quiet street near Rundle Street, it provides good oriental vegetarian cuisine. It also has some western meals. If you are a tea lover, they provide a good range of tea too. We tried their 5 yum cha dishes with a promotion price of AUD 19.90. It includes bean curd rolls, steamed veggie, pan-fried radish cake, Guotie dumpling, and Peking rolls. We also ordered their new dish, vegan salt and pepper Shandong chicken. Lastly, we ordered Lung Ching tea to go with the dishes. The total cost is AUD 43.30. We like the Shandong chicken very much, although it is a bit pricey compared to others on the menu. The yum cha dishes are definitely worth a try.
Hungry Jack’s
Address: multiple locations
Hungry Jack’s used to have only one burger which is suitable for vegetarians. Now it has two, and both are suitable for vegan. Hungry Jack’s is all around Adelaide. We went to Hungry Jack’s located on West Terrace. We tried their vegan avocado muffin and vegan cheeseburger. Both comes with vegan cheese. The cheeseburger even comes with two vegan patties. We ordered two regular set meals and they cost AUD 21.80 in total.
The Original Pancake Kitchen
Address: 13 Gilbert Pl, Adelaide SA 5000
The first time I visited this restaurant was 20 years ago. I believe it has opened for at least 50 years. They serve nice pancakes. Now they even have some vegan options. We ordered sweet sensation pancake with ice-cream and homemade chocolate fudge. The total cost is AUD 14.90.
Haigh’s Chocolates
Address: 154 Greenhill Rd, Parkside SA 5063
If you are a chocolate lover, you should not miss Haigh’s chocolates. Starting from Adelaide, now Haigh’s chocolates has outlets across Australia. Visit Haigh’s on Greenhill Road, they have short tour to show you how Haigh’s chocolates are made. They have many samples and different flavor of chocolates for you to taste too.
If you still urge for more chocolates, you could try Lindt chocolate shop at Habourtown Outlet Mall (727, Tapleys Hill Rd, West Beach SA 5024) which is not far from Adelaide airport. Some chocolates may be on good deals which you could not get from anywhere else. Don’t forget to get yourself a VIP card at the guest lounge before heading to the Lindt cafe. You may get further discount with the card.

The live music also spices up the food.

The Lost Deli is a vegan cafe which receives high rating from its past customers. It serves a wide range of food. We tried big brekkie, Parmigiana pie and a large flat white with happy soy milk. Seasonal Garden Cafe
Address: 220 The Parade, Norwood SA 5067
Since there were not much choices for us, we only ordered the breakfast salad and flat white with almond milk. The total cost is AUD 23. Surprisingly the breakfast salad tastes very nice. Unlike other salads which served raw, this salad is full of leafy greens with seasonal pan-cooked greens of kale, zucchini and broccoli served with avocado, roasted almonds and two poached eggs. Even though the cooking time required for each ingredients are different, nothing is overcooked or undercooked.
Nagev
Address: 190 Payneham Rd, Evandale SA 5069
Nagev is located not far from Adelaide city. We ordered Mushroom Haloumi burger and popcorn cauliflower bites. The total cost is AUD 30. The burger comes with some fries, and the cauliflowers are served with baby spinach and spicy sauce. We like the popcorn cauliflower bites. The cauliflowers are crispy.
Glenelg
Lord of the Fries
Address: 33 Jetty Rd, Glenelg SA 5045
This is not the only franchise outlet in South Australia. It has another outlet in Adelaide city. All food in Lord of the Fries are plant-based. Now some of their burgers can even be upgraded to use Beyond Meat patty. We tried their spicy burger combo, upgraded to Beyond Meat patty. The combo comes with a burger, fries, and soft drink. The total cost is AUD 21.50. This is the first time we get to try Beyond Meat, the taste is above average. The portion of the fries is large.
Hahndorf
Herbees Garden Cafe
55 Mount Barker Rd, Hahndorf SA 5245
Herbees Garden Cafe is a high rating cafe in Hahndorf which serve good vegan / vegetarian food. We tried their Vegan Swiss Mushroom burger and nachos. We love them. The burger tasted exceptionally good. The burger bun is slightly toasted, which adds extra flavour to the burger. The nachos are served with 5 different flavours of dips. All of them taste so nice. It was so lucky that we went on Thursday, where the nachos only costs AUD 12. The total cost of the burger and nachos is AUD 31.80.

This morning market opens only on Saturdays (7:30am – 11:30am). Local fresh vegetables, fruits, and food products are sold here. Some vegan products are available. We went for Market burger sold by Breakfast Bar as the staff was willing to customise for us (replace bacon with fried egg). Two Market burger plus one large size of flat white costs AUD 27. Don’t forget to spice up your burger with the sauces, salt, and pepper provided.
