There are two Ikea branches in Malaysia. Both are located in Klang valley area. The first branch is in Damansara. The Cheras branch is the newer one. We used to shop at Ikea Damansara. We visited Ikea Cheras for the first time, this is what we found.
It is bigger than Ikea Damansara. That makes us easy to find a parking and shop. It also display more furnitures, and we do not feel crowded inside the showrooms.
The restaurant is also spacious. Customers can easily get their food and get a table to sit down and enjoy the food.
However, we had a little bumpy experience in Ikea Cheras. We had some points that we can redeem cash voucher. We went on December 31 and wanted to redeem on the spot. However, the system showed we have zero point. Apparently the points expired on December 31, but not January 1. We missed by one day. It is a rather strange system design where we find it illogical to have points expire on last day of the month.
Then we went to the restaurant to redeem our free coffee / tea in their restaurant. We were told that both tea / coffee are unavailable. The machine is out of order. While we left, we saw the soft drink machine is still functioning. We asked if they can replace the coffee / tea with soft drink. They were unwilling to do so. We have no choice but to leave the restaurant. Ten minutes later, we still could not believe we have such a bad experience on our first visit to Ikea Cheras. So we went back to the restaurant. Then we realized that the machine is back in order again. We managed to redeem our free cup of coffee and tea.
We are not sure that the real reason of couldn’t get the free coffee / tea is the machine is out of order, or they limit the number of free coffee / tea to be given out in a day?
Anyway, there are other things that we found Ikea Damansara is better than Ikea Cheras:
- The toilets in Ikea Damansara are cleaner.
- The restaurant in Ikea Damansara has better outside view.
- Not all parking floors in Ikea Cheras has auto-pay machine. We have to walk to other floor to pay our parking fee.
- From Ikea Damansara, we can walk to Ikano Power Centre. In where we can get discounted price from shops like Starbucks and Popular bookstores using Ikea Family member card.
